CA18DET powered 240sxThe number one question most people ask me is why use a CA18DET instead of the more popular SR20DET.The answer is simple, I drive hard really hard, and I am a power hungry maniac. The CA18DET with it's cast iron block is far more durable than the SR20DET's aluminum block. There are a few draw backs such as weight, and a limited supply of aftermarket parts. However I feel purchasing a stock CA18DET putting out 175HP for around $1,200 and spending $1,800 on performance parts; is smarter than spending $3,000 on a stock SR20DET that has 215HP and not having any money left over for upgrades. So what exactly can you get for the CA18DET for $1,200? How about an intercooler or if your daring a water injection system. and a turbo upgrade and a light weight flywheel and a stage three clutch, and a high flow cat back exhaust system. hmm I wonder what the HP increase is with all of those parts. Do you think maybe just maybe it will exceed 215HP. I'm not saying the SR20DET is a bad base motor, I'm just saying what most other people are thinking "I am not rich and need as much bang for my buck as possible, and I also need reliability" You can build one hell of a power plant out of the CA18DET, and I can guarantee nobody will be laughing at you when you suck the paint off of there doors when you pass them. I don't know about anyone else, but I would like to know what it feels like to drive my 240sx with more than 400HP to the wheels. I do a ton of research before I decide what to do, and with my KA motor blown sort of "rocker arms chatter like hell" I have been looking for an inexpensive power house as my KA24E even as souped up as I had it still couldn't produce the kind of power I like. I want to know what speed of greater than 250mph feel like.
